Setting Boundaries

I recently spoke with a coaching client about boundaries. There seems to be a direct correlation between an inability to set boundaries and low self esteem. When we don’t set boundaries, people will push our limits and take advantage.

Boundaries have so much to do with your relationship with yourself and how in tune you are with your values – as well as the respect you give to them and yourself. In order to maintain personal integrity boundaries are vital.

If you find that you struggle with setting boundaries in your life, consider the following questions:

    • Where in your life are boundaries lacking?
    • What’s important to you? What do you value?
    • What do you need to do for your own wellbeing?
    • What might the consequences be of setting a particular boundary and are you willing to follow through with it?

If you’re reading this and struggling with setting personal boundaries, know you’re not alone – but know that as with everything, it starts with YOU. You can’t change others, but you can change yourself. Know when to say no. Stick to your values. Trust your gut. Create those boundaries and live your life with more fulfilment and less struggle.
